122 Calabarzon residents fall ill due to Taal volcanic smog

The Taal's volcanic smog (vog) is beginning to have an impact on the health of those in Region IV-A, as a result of the volcano's release of acidic sulfuric dioxide into the atmosphere.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) issued a warning last Thursday about the dangers of the "vog," advising residents to avoid outdoor activities and wear N95 masks.

According to a statement issued by the Office of Civil Defense last Friday night, the incident has already resulted in 122 smog-related health consultations in CALABARZON.

"On Friday afternoon, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) CALABARZON convened the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDDRMC) with all line agencies to coordinate the response."
